Sure it keeps the sun from glaring into our eyes, but more importantly, it protects the delicate area around our eyes from the wide spectrum of extremely harmful UV rays that are solely responsible for causing wrinkles, fine lines and age spots.
The correct pair of shades that provides 100 per cent UV ray protection will form a barrier between the sun and your eyes, reducing the chance of aging by a wide margin. That it also looks incredibly stylish and glamorous and adds a finishing touch to one's look is just the icing on the cake!
Celebrities the world over are proof that the right pair of sunglasses can make or break your look. Different shapes of sunnies flatter different face shapes, not to mention the colour of the frame and lenses which add amazing character to it. Before you head out to pick up a new pair do keep a few pointers in mind.
Firstly, determine the shape of your face. If you have a square face with strong jaws and chin, look at Wayfarers and slightly elongated, round ones. It will flatter the strong lines of your face and add to your personality.
In terms of colours, black frame is always chic and looks fabulous, but do try out the bright, fun shades available nowadays. A red or teal Wayfarer looks retro and cool, while slightly polarised lenses look edgy when encased in oversized metal frames.
If you have a round face with full cheeks and a soft jaw line, choose an oversized butterfly shape in metal or acetate frame, or a classic, vintage-inspired cat eye. Both of these oversized styles will contour your full cheeks and bring a new dimension to your face.
Choose a bright shade such as pink or white if you are feeling adventurous; alternately you could go for the classic black or tortoise shell. For those who have a heart-shaped face, with a wide-set forehead and narrow jaw line and chin, choose styles that extend outwards, so as to flatter the wider angles of your forehead.
A slim, classic cat eye or sleek Wayfarers works very well for this shape and looks very cool and stylish. Deep, dark green or purple frames look interesting, and gradient lenses add mystique.
For summer this year try to break out of convention, throw caution to the wind and sport a brightly coloured pair in shades like mellow yellow or pale mauve. When paired with a candy-coloured lip and bright cheeks you will never be more ready to embrace the sun!
In Dhaka sunglasses are widely available in optical stores everywhere. Just make sure that the pair you choose has proper 100 per cent UV ray protection. The ones that are not should be avoided entirely because they do more harm than good.
Don't fall for cheap imitations; invest in the real deal that is sure to stay with you for years to come. Also, sun stays the strongest between 10am to 4pm, so stash a pair in your bag while heading out during these hours. So go ahead, choose the pair that is meant for you, put it on with style and élan and stun away in the sun!
Lastly, if you have an oval face, congratulations! With generally balanced features, you can carry off most styles, but avoid very small or very large frames. Oversized shapes are the hottest shapes at the moment, interspersed with cat eye and slightly square ones.
